OBITUARY : Brahmasri S.N.Dorai (OD-01)It was with such sadness that we received the news of the passing of Brahmasri S.N.Dorai (OD-01), a highly respected and oldest member of our community. He was 89.
Brahmasri Dorai, affectionately known as Dorai Mama, was a pioneer member of the pre-war Brahmin community in Singapore. His contributions to the community and the Sabha have been distinguished and immense. Several milestones stand out in the long list of his contributions, not least, the little known fact that the first meeting of the resuscitated Sabha in 1947 was held at his residence in Rangoon Road. He was among the prime movers behind the purchase of the Sabha property in the 1950s. He served the Sabha at various times as President, Vice-President, Secretary, Committee Member and Trustee, leaving his indelible mark on its character and growth.
His untiring energy, strong leadership and charisma drew him into other organisations such as the Hindu Advisory Board, Singapore Indian Fine Arts Society, and the Ramakrishna Mission. In the case of the former, he was a founder member and played a major role in developing the society into an important organisation as we know today.Dorai Mamas passing is an incalculable loss for the members of his family, who only three months ago lost his wife, Srimathi Lakshmi Dorai. The couple were more than an ideal pair, bonded by 63 years of married life. They were a source of inspiration, love and affection not only to the members of their family but also to many of us who knew them well. We cannot but feel a deep sense of grief overcome us as we realise that we are now left with only fond memories of Dorai Mama and Mami.
We share with the family this great sense of loss and offer our heartfelt sympathy and condolence.

The three great Acharyas have written commentaries on it. This discusses about the realisation of the identity of Jiva with Brahman. Control of character by control of mind, body and emotions etc. forms the subject matter of the eight-fold steps taught in this sastra. QUOTEWORTHYOnce Justice ASP Ayyar was presiding over a music concert and he was surprised to find in the front row a person who did no have any knowledge of music. He jocularly remarked, "The front benchers have come to see the beauty of the singer and the back benchers are eager to listen to the beauty of the music" sending the audience into roaring laughter.
Justice ASP Ayyar was once asking a lawyer, "what is the difference between a lawyers mistake and a doctors mistake?" He went on to say, " A lawyers mistake hangs six feet above the ground and a doctors mistake is buried six feet below the ground."
