The Upa Vedas:

There are four Upa Vedas viz: Ayurveda, Dhanurveda, Gandharva Veda and Arthasastra.   AYURVEDA is the science of medicine.  Lord Brahma, the Ashvini Devatas, Dhanvantri, Indra, sages like Bharadwaja, Atri, Agnivesha are said to have composed this subject.  Besides medicine, surgery and even injections are dealt with.  The DHANURVEDA is the science of archery and is attributed to Sage Viswamitra.  Missiles like Chakra, the sword, and propelled forms of weapons form part of it.  GANDHARVA VEDA deals with the science of music and dance.  Nandikeswara, Narada and Hanuman are said to be original composers and later this was comprehended by sage Bharata.  The object of this science is to obtain concentration of mind in the worship of God.  The last of the Upa-Vedas is the ARTHASASTRA dealing with the acquisition of material objects by virtuous means.  This Sastra would also include Nitisastra, Shipasastra, the sixty-four Kalas and other physical and metaphysical subjects.
